Dhoomapaana / Inhalation of medicated fumes in Ayurveda

by Dr. Prasanna Venkatesh

Dhoomapaana (ಧೂಮಪಾನ) i.e, inhalation of medicated fumes, scents, garlands etc for diseases arises above the shoulder (nose, ear and  throat) by Kapha and Vata dosha.

Ex – Ear ache, Sinusitis, Heaviness of head, Bad smell from nose or mouth, Tooth ache, Sneezing, Excessive sleep and Difficulty in breathing etc.

This procedure involves a special technique i.e, fumes are to be inhaled through either nostrils / mouth, but must be exhaled through mouth only, it has to be practiced under the proper guidance of an Ayurveda physician which depends on individual Prakruthi, Season, Health condition etc.
