Ayurveda Acharyas have explained about Tambula sevana which is nothing but “Pan chewing”.
Ingredients
Along with basic ingredients like Betel leaf, Lime and Areca nut (ಅಡಿಕೆ) other ingredients used are pieces of dry coconut, fragrant substances like Nutmeg (ಜಾಯಿಕಾಯಿ), Clove (ಲವಂಗ), Camphor (ಪಚ್ಚಕರ್ಪೂರ), Fennel seed (ಬಡೆಸೋಪು) and Cardamom (ಏಲಕ್ಕಿ) etc. It is indicated after getting up from sleep, after food, after bath and even after vomiting.
Who should not use tambula?
Persons suffering from Bleeding disorders, Chest injury, Emaciation, Eye dryness, Fainting should avoid Tambula seevana.
Note:
- Tobacco usage is not mentioned in Ayurveda but it has been added along the line.
- Also excess usage of Tambula is not recommended for an individual.
